You've never tried anything like this before! Go deep with us at Fortress Mountain this winter where our snowcat lift offers exclusive access to hidden terrain in the backcountry of Kananaskis. The trip begins at the base of the former ski area where some of the old buildings are still standing. This area is also home to KPOW, Alberta's only snowcat assisted powder skiing operation! Once the snowcat drops us off we'll snowshoe through surreal wintery landscapes, towering peaks and pristine powder snow. Hot Chocolate & cookies included.

WHAT TO WEAR
Dress Requirement
Joining this trip means being prepared for any kind of weather. High alpine weather can be extreme and may be completely different than in town weather.
You MUST have winter boots or hiking boots, winter coat and pants, warm hat and warm gloves. Ski goggles recommended.

0900: Banff Pickups
0930: Canmore Pickups
10:00: Stoney Nakoda Resort Pickups -If you're driving from Calgary you can park at the resort and our guide will drive the rest of the way.
1020: Kananaskis Mountain Lodge Pickups
1100: Snowcat lift to deep backcountry
1130-1430: Fantastic snowshoeing!
14:30: Return Snowcat lift to base
1530: Return to Kananaskis Mountain Lodge
1550: Return to Stoney Nakoda Resort
1630/1700: Return to Canmore/Banff
Approx. 7.5 hours round tip from Banff. Approx. 6.5 hours round trip from Canmore. Approx. 4.5 hour round trip from the bottom of Fortress Mountain Road.
**As this is a longer trip, it is recommended to bring along a backpack, water and some snacks.

I'm a solo traveler. Is it possible to join the Fortress Snowcat Snowshoe Adventure on a public program?

Where is Fortress Mountain Resort?
Access to Fortress Mountain Resort is via a gated 12km gravel access road starting at Fortress Junction (40km south from Stoney Nakoda Casino on Hwy 40). No public access is available. You have the option to meet us at the Fortress Junction Service Station, at Stoney Nakoda Resort, or we can pick you up from any address in Banff, Canmore and surrounding area.
What facilities are available at Fortress Mountain Resort?
Infrastructure at Fortress is limited. Fortress Lounge is a converted maintenance bay with electric lights and wood-fired heat, and is available to clients as a warming station. There is no running water available, with only porta-potty available.
